The Verbose Vagina

A leafy garden tunnel

The female anatomy has been called many things, but one of the most common terms is vagina. While this is a generally accepted term to refer to the entirety of a woman’s genitals (both inside and out), it is not, strictly speaking, correct. The vagina actually refers to the tube that begins at the cervix (the entrance to the womb, where babies gestate) and extends out of the body, not necessarily the parts you are able to visually see on a naked woman. Those parts have an assortment of terms, as each part is a separate piece of the whole. The “outer lips” are called the labia majora (latin for big), and the “inner lips” are called the labia minora (latin for small). The small pleasure-nerve packed bud that sits at the top of these two, covered and protected by them, is called the clitoris. Much like a penis, this bud swells and becomes “erect” as the woman is aroused, responding to tactile and sexual stimuli.
