Five Steps To A More Romantic Relationship

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding romance is that it takes a level of production that would make Jerry Bruckheimer proud. The simple truth is that romance is a state of mind rather than a state of affairs.

Note that says I Love You

We love, as humans, searching for things. We look for love, the perfect mate – even the path to climax is something of a search for the right combination. So, why not tap into that urge by planning a super-sexy scavenger hunt or treasure hunt for your partner? As anyone in a relationship knows, disagreements can place a great deal of tension into interaction, festering for days, weeks – and in some extreme cases, even years. However, new science is hinting that there may be a way to “beat” stress – in more ways than one.

According to a recent University of Northern Illinois study, both couples and individuals that engage in BDSM practices (spanking, flogging, binding, etc) actually show a measurable drop in cortisol, a stress hormone, after a “scene” – that is, a period of specified time where the BDSM action is begun, performed and concluded. This theory is further explored in an Australian study of 20,000 people, during which those that engage in BDSM play were found to have significantly lower scores on a scale that indicated mental stress.

The wedding ring is a time-honored tradition that most of us are familiar with; a token of love in our cultural history that signifies the unity of marriage.
