Traveling With Adult Toys

While going through the security checkpoint, the TSA agent pulls out your sex toy, or worse yet toys, for all the world to see. What could be more embarrassing?

With the proliferation of online fetish and kink dating sites, the opportunities for people who are far apart to get together for a little R&R (or S&M) are increasing. With that increase comes the very real problem of how to transport sex toys.

Checking luggage is an obvious solution. Sure, the nameless, faceless baggage handler will undoubtedly open your bag as he or she is required to do and probably have a snicker with a co-worker over its contents, but you’ll be just as nameless and faceless to them as they are to you. The problem is that checking luggage, especially for short trips, is a pain in ass…and not the good kind.

Luckily, adult toy manufacturers are getting wise to the very real need for concealable toys. The fruit of this realization can be seen in the number of new sex toys made to look like everyday objects that women might use. From portable vibrators made to look like lipstick or eyeliner to small, utilitarian looking massagers with no easily discernible use, the options are getting better.

What they’re not getting, however, is bigger. Big toys have always been a no-no for those who aren’t checking luggage and want to avoid the possible embarrassment of a security search through their bags. Though you can easily fit a 10 inch dildo in a backpack or small carry-on, it’s far too large to avoid being detected on the belt. It shouldn’t matter, but not all TSA personnel understand the legal implications of humiliating you in public, which makes it tempting for some to do so.

Avoid traveling with batteries and lube, both of which are low cost and in moist cases can be purchased at your destination. You may have heard of Renee Koutsouradis, who was publicly made to open her checked bag on the tarmac in full view of Delta airlines employes and passengers, hold up a large dildo vibrator that had somehow been turned on in her checked bag and suffer some very inappropriate comments and laughter from one of the baggage handlers. She sued Delta and unfortunately lost, but this could have been avoided had she removed the batteries from the vibrator.

Piercings and cock rings are another issue as removing them is a bit more tricky than simply checking luggage. Be well prepared to explain why you are setting off the metal detector and to show your unmentionable areas to a same sex TSA agent. Chances are you won’t have to, but who wants to rely on chances?

All in all, bringing your adult toys on a trip shouldn’t be a real issue if you’re willing to check your bag, just be smart about it and make sure everything is sealed in a Zip-loc or other sealed plastic bag. You don’t want a baggage handler who has touched 4,000 other items to be touching something that might end up in you or your partner.

As always, have fun and be safe, sane and mutually consenting.
