Almost everyone knows that condoms are a quick, easy way to protect both the wearer and their partner during sex. Additionally, most sexually active people are aware that a condom can be placed on a male partner prior to oral sex to, once again, offer protection against STIs (sexually transmitted infections) or STDs. However, what should you do if the male partner wishes to perform oral sex on the female partner, or if the intimacy is to be between two female partners? A great (and often overlooked) resource is the dental dam.
This is a sheet of latex in the shape of a rectangle that can be placed over the female genitalia as a waterproof, STI/STD proof barrier that still allows the pleasurable sensations of oral sex. To up the enjoyment, many users will put a little bit of lubricant on the wearer’s side of the dam, and a little jam or honey on the “licker’s” side of the dam. This arrangement allows for more slick results for the wearer, and a tasty treat for their partner to encourage more vigorous and interesting licks. Don’t have a dental dam handy? If you can’t get to your local planned parenthood to pick up a free one, simply take a traditional condom, slice it up the side with a pair of sharp scissors, and lay the lubricated side against the wearer. No condom? Use plastic cling wrap (no kidding!).
